NEW VIDEO of Puerto Rican Delegate Zoraida Fonalledas Being Taunted with Chants of USA!

30 Aug

There’s an on going debate as to whether chants of USA USA USA were directed toward Puerto Rican GOP Delegate Zoraida Fonalledas.  Many believe, including myself, that these chants were racially motived and totally uncalled for.

There is no doubt, that Ms. Fonalledas was disrespected and subjected to racial bigotry.

In the video, just prior to Ms. Fonalledas being introduced, it appears that calm is restored on the convention floor. No booing or USA chants can be heard. When Republican National Committee Chairman, Reince Preibus introduces her as being from Puerto Rico, the boos begin. When Ms. Fonalledas begins to speak in her Spanish accent, we hear chants of USA USA USA for the first time.

For all you naysayers, believing that these chants were intended for fellow delegates, is totally ridiculous.
Americans hating on each other by screaming USA, is idiotic.

Chants of USA are reserved for two occasions
1. to express patriotism
2. to express ethnic hatred.

In the case of patriotism, the Olympic games would be a an ideal time to chant USA!

In the case of  ethnic hatred, the  implication of the chant is  – THEY ARE NOT AMERICAN CITIZENS.

Ms. Fonalledas, a Puerto Rican, speaking in a thick Spanish accent as a result of English being her 2nd
language, was not received, nor welcomed, as an American Citizen, and some delegates let her know it,
by chanting USA! USA! USA!

Watch the video and feel free to share your thoughts.

Bashing Latinos – America’s New TV Reality Show –

21 Jun

Latino bashing has become the most popular sport in America!
Why, you ask?
It’s fun, it’s easy and you can get away with it,  that’s why!

From Soledad Obrien’s horrific portrayal of Latinos on CNN’s “Latino In America”,
which won her the infamous “Chorizo Award” for her portrayal of a Latina journalist
a few years back – Check out the video, if you haven’t already seen it

and now,  John McCain’s latest remarks about illegal immigrants being responsible for setting wildfires in Arizona.
-Note to John McCain – In the words of Billy Joel;
“We didn’t start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world’s been turning”

Yes. Latino bashing is the new “In thing!”
Grab some popcorn and pull up a seat!

– Why aren’t you speaking English! –  Texas Sen. Chris Harris
– Shoot immigrants from helicopters – Kansas Rep. Virgil Peck
– I suppose if you’re a gay man from Guatemala who gambles and smokes pot, you probably think we’re on to some good ideas here – Rhode Island Rep Watson

Should I continue? Remember, it’s fun, it easy, and you can get away with it.

Thinking outside the box, if the racial bigotry going around the media served a purpose, let’s say, solved the budget deficit or ended all wars or brought down the price of gas, as a proud American, I would take the hit!  Go ahead, bash me!

-What do you call 4 Mexicans in quicksand? Cuatro, Cinco! (Stop it! My rib! You’re killing me!!!)

But sadly, it’s not.

It’s happening for votes and ratings. Period.
I’m beginning to think I’m part of a reality show, “Bashing Latinos.”
Our script is being written by racist politicians and media outlets.
The characters they have written for us include – Grease balls, Wetbacks, Border Bunnies, Beaner, Jose, Chico, Pedro,
Hombre, Cheese Lovers, Spic –

Should I continue? Remember, it’s fun, its easy, and you can get away with it.

So my question is, what are we doing about it?

As a whole, Latinos allow the media, the government, and other institutions to express their prejudiced views about us, and we sit quietly, watch and listen.   Unlike our African-American brothers and sisters, who unite as one voice, stand behind their leaders, and fight! What’s holding us back from doing the same? Is it the Latino Crab syndrome, where we drag each other down? Is it a coincidence that Latinos have no identifiable leaders/activists to stand behind? Are we our worst enemy?

It’s time for change my people.

The good news is, it can be done.

What do you think?

John Leguizamo is not Puerto Rican! WEPA!!!

11 Jun

When I first heard about Mr. Leguizamo not being Puerto Rican,
my first thought was – WEPA!!!

WEPA!, for us Puerto Ricans is a trigger word used to express emotion,
both good and bad. “Tito, just got his GED – WEPA!” or your dad
let’s out a nice, long fart and you go – WEPA!!!
You get the point.

In this instance, WEPA was used by me as to express surprise!

Like I can of knew it, John not being Puerto Rican, but to me it was about his
body of work, his passion for the art, his love of Being Latino!
John has represented Latinos, better than any artist I know.
The fact that he may have intentionally or unintentionally forgotten his roots,
is irrelevant.   He certainly didn’t do anything to hurt Puerto Ricans, did he?

John Leguizamo is a human being sharing his soul with the world!
“Ghetto Klown” “Freak”  “Mambo Mouth” –
Should I continue?

As Latinos, we get caught up in this self-pride as to who’s race is better.
On my new Comedy CD-  “Mike Robles – Live From New York City -WEPA!!!”  (shameless plug, I know) I have a track called “Don’t Confuse The Races”, where I address this issue.

Perhaps, this incident will raise awareness to the fact that inter-racial racism is a more serious problem for Latinos,
than we like to admit.
