President Obama Visits Puerto Rico – Statehood vs Independence?

15 Jun

The US would never allow Puerto Rico to become independent!
Why?
Because the Chinese government would pump money into the island faster than you can say, Pork Fried Rice!
China-Ricans, is not an image the US wants in its backyard.

So then, why is it that on the one hand the US is in no rush to add Puerto Rico,  as its 51st state, yet on the other doesn’t want to see Puerto Rico truly be free (independent)?  Is it because by being an independent nation, Puerto Rico can then flirt with other countries? Is  the US afraid of losing control in its own back yard, particularly to China.

If I may use the following analogy, it appears to me that The US is treating Puerto Rico, the world’s oldest colony,  like it’s mistress, and I have a big problem with that!  America does not want to commit and get married, have Puerto Rico as its 51 state, yet on the other hand, America does not want to loose her either!  Like a man who not only wants his cake, but wants to eat it too, the US has teased it’s mistress with a taste of marriage, by offering US citizenship, federal funding, and MTV to keep her entertained.
We’re like married, but not really married.

So what should we call our relationship then? Common Law?
Hmm? I have a better idea, instead of common law, lets call our relationship, Commonwealth.
I will shower you with wealth, in exchange for your resources, cooperation,  and great strategic location!
Deal?

So, like your favorite Telemundo soap opera, how will this saga end?

Will The US & Puerto Rico finally get married or will they part ways?

In the words of Beyonce, “If you like it, then you shoulda put a ring on it!”

What do you think?

…Mike you really put it there! But you forgot something; in Puerto Rico people don’t want to work, they depend on Commonwealth’s Welfare. As long as Money and Scholarships Benefit exists; there’s no need to pay for College or go to work! And unfortunately, we who work hard day by day, we need to feed the parasites living on the Island!…There are more than 10 holidays that we celebrate (including the U.S. Holidays); what more do we wish for? We are living in God’s Paradise!…Even the Separatists enjoy Welfare, Holidays, Scholarships and Fema (monetary help when there’s a disaster). And when there’s a Rally or Worker’s Strike (as happened in La Universidad de P.R.); they get together and try get all the media attention and declare victory on the issue!…And those who want statehood still think that in less than 10 years Puerto Rico is gonna become the 51st State of U.S.A.!…DREAMS ARE FOR FREE!…

I hope and pray that the day will come when the Puerto Ricans will vote for IndependenceTheres no need to go into details about P.R. and the USA. Everybody knows about the subject. USA just wants to use and take what ever Puerto R ico has. Dont forget, the young boys who were drafted into the army, fighting a war that wasnt ours, but some had no choice but to join. The Island resources, the women the american Drs. used as guinia pigs Vieques was use as a navy base, where they still have fragments of their military use, they left it dirty. They didnt care.
The fisherman that was killed he wasnt the enemy, but did they offered excuses no, they were north americans, they can do what ever they pleased. So dont tell me what Puerto Ricans want!!. If some depend on the US money its because thats what the USA taught them to depend on them. That was their teaching, If they live on welfare, they learned their lesson well. and when we have to go on strike, we do it for a cause, not to get the media attention. Thats why I,and most of my Puerto Ricans people want independence. So we can make decisions, and trade with other latin american countries. VIVA PUERTO RICO LIBRE!!!!

I don’t-know if agree a 100% with the Chinese theory…I mean the Chinese could have done this with Cuba (closer to the main land than PR) especially when the Russian turn their back on them or even in DR where poverty is even higher.

China, pour money into PR? Don’t make me laugh. I don’t see them doing the same to Cuba or Vietnam. Vietnam is in its own backyard.
